The main accused in the Delhi Kailash Hills rape and murder case, Rahul Meena, was reportedly addicted to online betting and card games, losing over ₹7 lakh in the last few months.
Meena's addiction drove him to frequently borrow money, which led to violent tendencies and aggressive behavior, according to police.
Hours before committing the crime, Meena raped another woman in Rajasthan's Alwar, and his history of violent conduct and psychopathic tendencies were noted by police.
On the morning of April 22, Meena entered the victim's fourth-floor apartment in Delhi's Kailash Hills using a spare key, where he demanded money, strangled her, and then raped her while she was unconscious.
Meena then dragged her body down a flight of stairs to access a fingerprint-protected locker, which he broke open using a heavy object, fleeing with ₹2 lakh in cash and ₹10 lakh worth of jewelry.
An autopsy report revealed multiple injuries, including a fractured neck, broken nose, and serious damage to her neck, indicating she tried to fight the attacker.
