The Indian government has announced that Parliament will be adjourned and reconvened before the end of the current round of assembly elections to discuss a 'very important' bill.

According to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, the bill, which seeks to reserve 33% seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures, will be introduced and passed in the next 2-3 weeks.

The move is being seen as a significant step towards increasing women's participation in Indian politics, with the provision expected to roll out ahead of the 2029 general elections.

However, the Congress party has expressed concerns over the long-term implications of the proposed bills, accusing the government of politicising the issue.
