Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the situation following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for austerity measures.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, however, criticized the PM, asking why citizens should bear the burden of the government's mistakes.
Thackeray pointed out that the PM had not made similar appeals during previous instances of high crude oil prices and questioned the government's handling of funds collected from inflated petrol and diesel prices.
Pawar emphasized the need for greater sensitivity and broad consultations in the current international situation, calling for a meeting with economic experts, industry representatives, and specialists to review the situation and discuss future policies.
