PM Modi Envisions Uttarakhand as Global Spiritual Hub, Announces ₹8,000 Crore Projects

In a keynote address at the Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Dehradun, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Uttarakhand's remarkable progress in ayurveda, yoga, and herbal development. He stated that the state has the potential to become the world's spiritual capital, connecting its wellness centers to the global network of wellness tourism. Over the past 25 years, Uttarakhand has experienced significant growth in these sectors. To further boost tourism, Modi suggested establishing yoga and wellness centers at the assembly segment level, and developing every Vibrant Village as a tourist destination. He also proposed the 'one district, one mela' initiative to promote the state's diverse fairs. The Prime Minister emphasized the state's progress in education and healthcare, citing a tenfold increase in engineering colleges and expanded vaccination coverage to every village. Modi also launched and laid the foundation stones of projects worth over ₹8,000 crore, aimed at boosting job creation and development. In addition, he announced connectivity projects worth ₹2 lakh crore to enhance accessibility across the hill state. Modi highlighted the state's growing appeal in winter, eco, and adventure tourism, suggesting that five to six destinations be promoted under the 'Wed in India' campaign as premier wedding locations. The Prime Minister commended the Dhami-led government for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, making it a model for other states. Modi urged the state to decide on its future trajectory, saying, 'If the destination is clear, the roadmap will follow.'
