Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions and loss of civilian lives in West Asia during his phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Modi discussed the 'serious situation in the region' and raised concerns over the safety and security of Indian nationals, as well as the need for unhindered transit of goods and energy.

He reiterated India's commitment to peace and stability, and emphasized the importance of resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

India has moved hundreds of citizens from Tehran to safer locations, and scores have left Iran for Azerbaijan and Armenia to return home.
