PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has urged the Centre to reject Karnataka's detailed project report for the proposed Mekedatu dam.
He claimed that the dam's construction would affect irrigation in 14 districts and drinking water supply for 5 crore people in Tamil Nadu.
Disputing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Sivakumar's remarks, Anbumai said the claim that Tamil Nadu has no right to oppose the project is 'condemnable'.
He pointed out that the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal had ruled that Karnataka should not undertake any construction across the Cauvery without the consent of the basin state Tamil Nadu.
The Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld this, he said.
