Poland has expressed satisfaction with India's reduced Russian oil imports, a move that has come under fire from the United States. US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs as high as 500% on countries that continue to purchase Russian oil, including India. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski praised India's efforts to cut back on oil imports from Moscow, stating that it would help to reduce funding for Russia's war efforts in Ukraine. This statement comes as India participated in its first engagement with the Weimar Triangle, a regional grouping of France, Germany, and Poland, aimed at promoting European integration and cooperation. The US has been critical of India's continued purchase of Russian oil, with President Trump warning of potential tariffs and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham hinting at further action. The US has already imposed tariffs on Indian goods and has threatened to increase them further if India does not comply with its demands. The development has strained ties between India and the US, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar participating in discussions with his European counterparts in Paris. The issue is set to escalate further, with a vote on the proposed bipartisan bill that could allow the US to impose tariffs of up to 500% on countries that purchase Russian oil or uranium possible as early as next week.
