Prateek Yadav, the 38-year-old stepson of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh, died early Wednesday in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. His death comes months after a family drama erupted when he alleged that his wife, BJP leader Aparna Yadav, was a 'selfish woman' he planned to divorce.
Prateek was born to Mulayam Singh's second wife, Sadhana Gupta Yadav, from her previous marriage. His mother passed away in July 2022.
Confirming the death, Lucknow Civil Hospital director Dr GP Gupta said Prateek was brought to the hospital at 5:30 am, where he was declared dead at 5:55 am despite efforts by the medical team.
A suspected poisoning angle will be probed after the postmortem, hospital sources said.
Prateek had sought divorce from Aparna in January this year, describing her as a 'family destroyer' and accusing her of being self-centered and driven by fame and influence.
However, the couple appeared to have improved their relationship, with happy memories shared on their social media handles. The posts where Prateek wrote about divorce were also removed.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences over Prateek's demise, describing it as 'extremely heartbreaking'.
