In a significant display of India's naval prowess, President Droupadi Murmu undertook a daring submarine sortie onboard the state-of-the-art INS Vaghsheer on Sunday. This historic moment marks the second time a President has experienced a submarine journey, following in the footsteps of the late President Abdul Kalam in 2006. The President, dressed in a naval uniform, boarded the Kalvari-class submarine at the Karwar naval base in Karnataka, accompanied by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. As she entered the vessel, President Murmu was greeted by the crew, whom she commended for their dedication, commitment, and selfless service. During her interaction with the crew, President Murmu hailed INS Vaghsheer as a shining example of the Indian Navy's professional excellence, combat preparedness, and unwavering commitment to national security. The President was also briefed on the submarine's role in India's maritime strategy and its operational capabilities. INS Vaghsheer, the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene project, is one of the world's most silent and versatile diesel-electric submarines. The submarine is equipped with advanced sonar systems, wire-guided torpedoes, and anti-ship missiles, making it a formidable asset for the Indian Navy. This submarine sortie is a significant step for President Murmu, who has also taken the reins of a Rafale fighter jet and a Sukhoi 30 MKI in recent months. The Karwar naval base, where INS Vaghsheer is stationed, is being developed to serve as a key hub for India's maritime security interests in the Indian Ocean region. With this historic moment, President Murmu has once again demonstrated her commitment to showcasing India's military capabilities and reinforcing the country's position as a major player in the region.
