Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stated that a recent knife attack in Mira Road appears to be a case of self-radicalisation.

The suspect, a 31-year-old man who had returned from the United States, had a desire to target members of the Hindu community in the name of jihad, Fadnavis said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was radicalised and had incriminating material at his residence, including books.

The case is currently being investigated by the Anti-Terrorism Squad and the National Investigation Agency, with several agencies examining the matter.

The probe will look beyond the accused to determine whether any larger network was involved.
