Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has predicted a strike on petrol-diesel after a record ₹993 increase in commercial liquified petroleum gas (LPG) prices. The commercial LPG price hike is the steepest-ever rate increase, with a 19-kg cylinder now costing ₹3,071.50. The rates for five-kg FTL or market-priced LPG cylinders have also been hiked from ₹549 to ₹810.50 per bottle.
Rahul Gandhi said, 'First strike on gas, next strike on petrol-diesel.' He claimed that the heat of inflation would come after the elections, with the commercial gas cylinder being ₹993 more expensive. The prices of petrol, diesel, and household domestic LPG have not been changed, protecting domestic consumers from the recent increase in international fuel prices.
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) announced the decisions, stating that price revisions have been limited to select industrial segments, which constitute a relatively small share of overall consumption. The retail prices of petrol and diesel remain unchanged for the general public, and there is no change in the prices of domestic LPG for 33 crore domestic LPG consumers.
