Rajasthan's granite and marble industry is facing one of its worst downturns in recent years due to escalating tensions in West Asia, disrupting exports, increasing freight costs, and triggering shutdowns across key industrial hubs.
The supply of raw material has been hit, and the export of finished products has come to a complete halt, with around 80% of factories in Jalore on the verge of closure.
Business worth nearly ₹800 crore per month in marble, granite, and quartz has been severely impacted, with many factory owners scaling down or halting production, directly impacting laborers and their livelihoods.
The industry is in a wait-and-watch mode, with exports nearly stalled and transport costs increased manifold, pushing up raw material costs and production costs.
Jalore, known globally for its granite exports, has been the worst-affected region, with nearly 250 granite units shutting down in the past two weeks due to declining export orders.
The situation remains uncertain, with local exporters warning that if exports do not resume soon, more closures are inevitable, and thousands of workers face the risk of unemployment.
