Assembly elections in Assam, Puducherry, and Kerala saw record voter turnouts on Thursday, with Assam and Puducherry achieving the highest ever participation in their history, while Kerala recorded its highest turnout in nearly four decades.
The Election Commission data showed Assam's turnout at 85.83% of its 25 million electors, Kerala at 78.27% of its 27.1 million, and Puducherry at 89.87% of 950,311.
The high participation was attributed to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Kerala and Puducherry, and the Special Revision in Assam, which resulted in a smaller denominator and inflated the turnout percentage.
The votes will be counted on May 4, along with Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
