Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala - Kerala Devaswom Minister V N Vasavan has announced that elaborate preparations are underway for the upcoming Makaravilakku festival in Sabarimala. To manage the large influx of pilgrims, entry to the hill shrine on January 14, the festival day, will be restricted to 35,000 devotees. Of these, 30,000 will be allowed entry through the virtual queue system, while the remaining 5,000 can opt for spot booking. The Devaswom Board has implemented several measures to ensure a smooth and secure experience for pilgrims. From January 10, room booking at Sannidhanam will be fully online, and devotees will be required to use valid photo identity cards for booking and verification purposes. To prevent the resale of bookings at inflated prices, the Board will issue photo-embedded passes for viewing the Makaravilakku from the temple premises. To address fire safety concerns, devotees staying in temporary shelters around the Sabarimala premises have been advised not to cook their own food. The Devaswom Board will arrange for food for these pilgrims. Additionally, the Forest Department will assist in clearing trees and branches along the route of the Thiruvabharanam procession to ensure a smooth passage. Preparations are also underway for the Chandanakkudam procession on January 10 and the Pettathullal ritual the following day at Erumeli. With the Makaravilakku festival marking the culmination of the annual pilgrimage season in Sabarimala, the Devaswom Board is working tirelessly to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all devotees.
