The Supreme Court has come down heavily on West Bengal chief secretary Dushyant Nariala, asking him to apologize for not answering calls from the Chief Justice of Calcutta high court.

The court's remarks came during a hearing on the gherao of seven judicial officers who were posted for the special intensive revision (SIR) of voter roll exercise in Malda district.

Nariala had claimed that he received no calls and was on a flight between 2pm and 4pm on the relevant time, but the court was not convinced.

Justice Joymalya Bagchi directed Nariala to issue an apology to the Chief Justice of the high court, saying 'Security so high that even the Chief Justice of Calcutta high court cannot access? So please lower yourself a bit so ordinary minions like the Chief Justice of high court can access you.'

Nariala has since apologized, and the Supreme Court has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the investigation in the alleged hostage-taking of the seven judicial officers.
