Northern states in India have been experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring across the country. Amid this, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared a 'traditional' hack at a public gathering in Madhya Pradesh, urging people to carry an onion in their pocket to protect against heatstroke.
Scindia, who does not use air conditioning in his vehicle, claimed that carrying an onion can keep you safe from the heat. He even pulled out an onion from his pocket to demonstrate the point.
However, there is no scientific evidence to support this claim. The India Meteorological Department has warned of heatwave conditions across several parts of the country, with maximum temperatures crossing the 40-degree mark in several areas.
The highest maximum temperature of 46.9 degrees Celsius was recorded at Akola, and heatwave conditions are likely to persist in several states till April 28. However, there might be a gradual shift in temperatures, with IMD indicating slight relief from Tuesday.
