The Muslim side has moved the Supreme Court, challenging a Madhya Pradesh High Court order that declared the disputed Bhojshala complex a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati.

The complex in Dhar district is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and has been a subject of dispute between Hindus and Muslims, with the Muslim side calling it the Kamal Maula Mosque.

The appeal filed by the mosque's caretaker, Qazi Moinuddin, challenges the May 15 order of the high court, which also quashed an April 7, 2003, order allowing Muslims to offer namaz inside the complex every Friday.

The high court had suggested that the Muslim community approach the Madhya Pradesh government for the allotment of separate land in the district for the construction of a mosque.
