The Supreme Court has issued a notice to HDFC Bank's managing director and CEO, Sashidhar Jagdishan, in response to a petition filed by the Lilavati hospital trust challenging the Bombay High Court's judgment quashing a criminal case against him.
The trust alleges that Jagdishan received illegal payments of approximately ₹2.05 crore between March 2022 and June 2023, and that the High Court exceeded its jurisdiction by holding that the complaint was a fallout of recovery proceedings initiated against the trust.
The trust's petition states that the High Court's judgment resulted in the premature interdiction of an ongoing investigation, despite substantial incriminating material already having been collected.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Jagdishan, argued that the High Court rightly observed the growing friction between the Mehta family and stated that the allegations in the FIR lacked any substantive material.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the matter in August.
