In Bihar's Digha constituency, Divya Gautam, the cousin of late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, is currently trailing behind BJP's Sanjiv Chaurasia. Chaurasia, a sitting MLA, is leading with 30,598 votes in the ongoing counting process. Divya Gautam, a 33-year-old former student leader and social activist, has been actively involved in politics since her student days. Born to Bhupendra Kumar Singh, she is a graduate of Patna College and holds a postgraduate degree in journalism and mass communication. Gautam has served as an assistant professor at Patna Women's College and declined a government post as a supply inspector after clearing the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam in 2021. Despite their differing political ideologies, Gautam shares a cultural bond with Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away in 2020. She credits her mother's loss at a young age for fueling her resolve to fight for social justice. Gautam's entry into politics began during her student years, when she contested the 2012 Patna University Students' Union election as an All India Students' Association (AISA) candidate. Sanjiv Chaurasia, the BJP's candidate, has been a key face in Patna's urban belt and has expressed gratitude to the party leadership for reposing faith in him. With over 4.58 lakh voters, Digha is the most populous constituency in the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, which were held in two phases on November 6 and 11. The constituency has been a BJP bastion since its creation and plays a crucial role in shaping the political sentiment of the capital region.
