Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's criticism of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over the delayed release of actor Vijay's film Jana Nayagan has sparked a heated exchange with BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan. Soundararajan accused Stalin and the Congress of lacking moral authority to criticize the CBFC, citing alleged unfair arrests of YouTubers and stifling of free speech during the Emergency in 1975-77. The release of Jana Nayagan, Vijay's final film before entering politics, has been delayed due to a standoff with the CBFC over the film's certification. The Madras High Court directed the CBFC to issue a U/A 16 certification, but the certificate has not yet been issued. The CBFC halted the certification process after a complaint from a committee member, citing objectionable dialogues and violent scenes in the film. Soundararajan accused Stalin of being "jittery" and suppressing freedom of speech, pointing to alleged arrests of critics on YouTube. "The Opposition blames the Centre for everything, whether it's rain or drought," she said. "People won't believe them like this.
