The Tamil Nadu government has formed the 'Singappen Special Task Force' to strengthen women's safety and preventive protection measures in the state.
The special unit will function under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister and will have several key posts sanctioned, including an Inspector General of Police and 20 personnel from other ranks.
The step comes a day after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay took charge as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
