The Telangana High Court has dismissed a petition seeking to cancel a ticket price hike for actor Chiranjeevi's upcoming film, 'Mana Sankara Varaprasad Garu', set to release on January 12. The court asked the petitioner to refile the petition on January 19, after the Sankranti festival. This decision comes a day after the high court blocked a similar price increase for the film 'Raja Saab' and scolded the state government for its inconsistent approach to film ticket prices. The Telangana government had recently allowed a special paid premiere show for 'Mana Sankara Varaprasad Garu' on January 11, with tickets priced at ₹600, including GST. From January 12, the government permitted a ₹50 (including GST) increase in single-screen theatres and a ₹100 (including GST) increase in multiplexes for a seven-day period. However, the state's cinematography minister, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, denied giving permission for the price hike, stating that he had stopped engaging with the film industry on such matters. He clarified that his office had not received any files related to recent or upcoming film releases. The high court's decision highlights the ongoing debate over film ticket prices in Telangana. The state government's inconsistent policies have raised concerns about the public interest and the potential for cinema to become a luxury item. The court has urged the government to establish a more consistent framework for film ticket prices.
