The Telangana high court has issued notices to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Danam Nagender and the state assembly speaker in connection with a petition challenging the decision not to disqualify the lawmaker for switching to the Congress.

A high court bench has asked Nagender to file his response within four weeks and directed the speaker to file a response by April 16.

The BJP leader filed the petition after the speaker's ruling on March 11 that Nagender had not switched parties and continued to remain with the BRS.

The BJP leader argued that Nagender had voluntarily given up his BRS membership by contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress party ticket.

The court has adjourned the matter to April 16 and directed the recovery of salary and allowances received by Nagender, alleging they were drawn in violation of constitutional norms.
