The Telangana government has introduced a legislation to provide financial support to elderly parents neglected by their employed children.
The Telangana Employees Accountability and Monitoring of Parental Support Bill, 2026, mandates a 15% deduction or ₹10,000, whichever is less, from the salary of employees found neglecting their parents.
The deducted amount will be credited into the parents' accounts directly, and the government will notify the district collector as the designated authority for adjudicating and deciding applications made by the parents.
The bill also constitutes a Senior Citizens Commission, which will serve as an appellate authority, and a state-level monitoring body to closely monitor the implementation of the provisions of this Act.
The government expressed concern that instances of neglect and lack of support to elderly parents had been increasing, and the bill aims to promote enforceable moral responsibility in society.
