An adult tiger was found dead in Goa's Dharbandora region with its teeth and nails missing, sparking concerns over possible poaching and renewed calls to declare a tiger reserve in the state.
The carcass was found at Aalot, near the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary in Mollem, and a postmortem report is pending.
This is not the first time a tiger has been found dead in Goa; in 2020, a family of five tigers was found poisoned to death, and another tiger was found killed in a trap in 2009.
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has recommended declaring a tiger reserve in Goa, citing the state's potential to increase the overall tiger population numbers.
However, the Goa government has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court's directive to declare a tiger reserve, citing concerns over relocating the local population.
