Tirupati Professors Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Student, Spying on Her

Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh - In a shocking case of academic exploitation, two assistant professors from the National Sanskrit University have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman student. The victim, from Odisha, joined the B.Ed course in June this year. Dr. Laxman Kumar, an assistant professor in the education department, allegedly used his position to lure the student into his office, where the assault took place. According to police, his colleague, Dr. A Shekhar Reddy, secretly recorded and photographed the incident from outside the office window. He then used these materials to intimidate the student, threatening to share them on social media. The university authorities suspended Dr. Kumar pending an investigation and later registered a formal complaint with the police. Under the supervision of DSP M Bhaktavatsalam, special teams were formed to investigate the matter. A team of police officials traveled to the victim's hometown in Odisha to record her statement. The police have registered cases under Section 75 (1) (sexual harassment), 77 (voyeurism and capturing images without consent), and 79 (acts intended to insult modesty) of the BNS. The investigation is ongoing.
