Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Humayun Kabir has made a significant impact in the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections, winning two key constituencies: Rejinagar and Naoda.

Kabir, who formed the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AUJP), managed to win both seats with significant margins of over 58,000 votes and over 27,000 votes, respectively.

The AUJP leader has a history of maintaining significant influence in the Murshidabad district, where he centred his campaign. Kabir has previously been associated with the Congress, Trinamool Congress, and the BJP, and has won the 2021 assembly election from Bharatpur on a TMC ticket.

Rejinagar and Naoda are both rural constituencies in Murshidabad district, with a significant Muslim electorate. The constituencies have seen changes in party control since their formation, with the Congress and Trinamool Congress having held the seats in the past.
