A Tamil Nadu-based doctor, Dr. K. Jagadeeswaran, was detained in Sochi, Russia, in September and has since been subjected to alleged torture and humiliation. His wife has approached the Centre and Tamil Nadu government for help to bring him back to India. According to reports, Jagadeeswaran was in Russia with his friend, who runs an educational consultancy, on a tourist visa. However, after being detained at the Sochi airport, Jagadeeswaran was not allowed to return to India, allegedly due to his cooperation with immigration officials. His friend was released after a week and deported back to India. Jagadeeswaran was released from custody after the family hired a lawyer in Sochi, but the Russian authorities have withheld his travel documents, preventing him from returning to India. His wife alleges that he has been harassed, humiliated, and denied proper food, leading to a deterioration in his health. The family has approached the Indian Embassy in Moscow, but Jagadeeswaran lacks the necessary documents to travel there. The Ministry of External Affairs and the BJP Tamil Nadu office have been informed of the situation, but no solution has been found yet. The couple has been living in Armenia since 2022, where Jagadeeswaran works as a doctor. They visited India in August and returned to Armenia, but Jagadeeswaran accompanied his friend to Russia to help him with his tourist visa. The incident has left the family in a state of distress, and they are seeking urgent help to bring Jagadeeswaran back to India.
