Tripura Sees Lowest Crime Rate in 20 Years: DGP Anurag Credits Improved Law and Order

AGARTALA, Tripura - The state has achieved a significant milestone in its law enforcement efforts, with crime rates plummeting by 8.3% in 2025 to a 20-year low. According to Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, the total number of registered cases dropped to 3,698 last year, down from 4,033 in 2024. In a notable downward trend, murder cases decreased by 18%, with 95 cases reported in 2025, compared to 116 in 2024. Similarly, cases of hurt and assault declined by 14.23%, falling from 815 to 699. Rioting incidents, a long-standing concern in the region, dropped by 26%, with only 17 cases lodged last year, down from 23 the previous year. Crime rates against women also saw an 8% decline, with 665 cases reported in 2025, down from 724 in 2024. Specifically, dowry harassment cases reduced from 256 to 206, while rape cases decreased from 180 to 169. A notable improvement was also seen in road safety, with accidents declining by nearly 9% and fatalities falling by 12.8%. However, cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act increased by 11% from 470 in 2024 to 522 in 2025. DGP Dhankar's efforts have been instrumental in achieving this significant improvement in law and order, and the state is expected to continue its downward trend in crime rates in the coming years.
