A devastating incident has shaken the academic community of Tripura. Anjel Chakma, a 24-year-old MBA student from Nandannagar, was brutally attacked by a group of six people in Dehradun on December 9 for objecting to a racial slur. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on December 26. While six out of the five accused have been arrested, the mastermind remains at large. The Uttarakhand Police had earlier announced a ₹25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the prime accused. However, Tripura's Tipra Motha Party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has taken a bold step by offering a ₹10 lakh reward from his own pocket for any information that leads to the capture of the main culprit. This announcement was made in a video post, where he expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the initial reward amount. In a display of solidarity, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has also announced a compensation of ₹3 lakh to Anjel's family members to support their final rites. The council's Chief Executive Member, Purna Chandra Jamatia, expressed his condolences to the bereaved family, stating that the gesture reflects their collective sense of responsibility during this difficult time.
