US President Donald Trump has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the BJP's historic victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
The BJP secured 206 seats, crossing the majority mark, while the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee secured 80 seats.
The BJP's campaign focused on slogans such as 'Joy Ma Kali' and 'Joy Ma Durga', and booth-level management, which paid off on May 4.
With Mamata Banerjee's majority lost, she is constitutionally untenable as CM, and the BJP will now focus on picking a new chief minister for Bengal.
