Salim Dola, the alleged mastermind behind one of India's largest synthetic drug manufacturing and supply cartels, has been detained in Turkey's Istanbul. Dola, with links to Dawood Ibrahim, was detained in a joint operation by Turkish and local police units based on an Interpol red corner notice.
According to police, Dola started out selling gutkha and later shifted to marijuana before moving on to manufacturing and supplying synthetic drugs like 'Button', made using fentanyl. He was arrested multiple times but managed to flee to the UAE and later Turkey, where he established a real estate business using money from the drug trade.
Indian authorities will now try to get Dola extradited through the UAE, as India does not have an extradition treaty with Turkey.
