Two Air India flights headed to the UK were forced to take detours on January 9 due to severe weather conditions. Flight AI131, bound for London Heathrow from Mumbai, was diverted to London Gatwick after being held over Heathrow. The aircraft landed safely at Gatwick, with all passengers receiving assistance. In a separate incident, Flight AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham was unable to land at its scheduled destination due to adverse weather. The crew diverted the flight and landed in London, where they requested priority landing as per standard procedure. This is not an isolated incident. On January 2, an Air India Express flight was forced to return to Delhi after repeatedly attempting to land at Lucknow airport. The flight, IX-2171, was unable to land due to severely reduced visibility, prompting Air Traffic Control to deny landing permission. As a result, the airline was forced to cancel its onward service to Riyadh.
