The UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock has emphasized the importance of the United Nations in ensuring global peace and security, citing its unique ability to provide a seat at the table for all countries, regardless of their size or strength.
Baerbock made these remarks during a visit to India, where she is holding discussions with the country's leadership on reforming the UN system and addressing global crises such as the war in Ukraine and the West Asia conflict.
The UN President highlighted the UN's role in ceasefire negotiations and its commitment to equality and sovereignty of every country, contrasting it with the US-led Board of Peace, which can be joined only by paying a fee.
Baerbock also acknowledged the need for UN reform to increase its efficiency and avoid duplication, saying that the UN is indispensable but needs to adapt to the challenges of the 21st century.
