US Energy Secretary Chris Wright hinted that India might help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil route, amid tensions with Iran.
Wright said President Donald Trump was reaching out to other countries, including India, to enlist their help in securing the Strait.
The comments come as Axios reported that Trump is working to assemble a coalition of countries to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait is crucial for global oil trade, with around one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passing through it.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the Strait is open, but closed to US and Israeli vessels due to 'security concerns'.
