US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer expressed hope for a historic agreement with India, saying he expects to meet with commerce minister Piyush Goyal soon. A US delegation will visit India next week for talks on an interim bilateral trade agreement.
Greer said a team led by Assistant US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch will visit India from June 1-4, and he hopes to finalize the agreement based on a joint framework agreed upon earlier. The talks aim to finalize details of the interim agreement and carry forward negotiations under the broader India-US BTA framework.
The Indian negotiating team visited Washington DC last month for in-person meetings with US counterparts, and the US team will visit India to take forward discussions on multiple areas, including market access, non-tariff measures, customs, and trade facilitation.
