A former US official has expressed skepticism over Pakistan's role in mediating peace between Iran and the US, suggesting India as a more suitable alternative.

Colonel Douglas Macgregor, a former advisor to the US Secretary of Defence, stated that Pakistan's credibility is questionable, and Israel would not view the country as neutral in negotiations.

Macgregor proposed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should call US President Donald Trump to facilitate talks, citing India's global respect and working relationships with international leaders.

He also emphasized that Pakistan's economic concerns and lack of neutrality make it an unsuitable mediator, while India's civilisational status and global influence make it a more desirable partner.

The US official expressed hope that India would intervene in the conflict, despite the uncertainty of a positive outcome.
