The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has condemned India's deteriorating religious freedom record, recommending targeted sanctions on key entities, including the RSS and R&AW.

India has been designated as a 'country of particular concern' due to the government's alleged targeting of religious minorities and houses of worship.

The USCIRF cited communal clashes, anti-conversion laws, and the detention of citizens and religious refugees as evidence of India's worsening human rights record.

The US government has been urged to press India on religious freedom issues and to halt arms sales to the country.

India has rejected the USCIRF's findings, calling them 'biased' and 'politically motivated', and has denied visas to the commission's team.
