A heated confrontation broke out in the Nagla Godi village of Etah, Uttar Pradesh, when a tehsildar and his team attempted to measure a disputed land. The villagers, who claim the land is still under dispute, accused the officials of colluding with the 'land mafia' to facilitate illegal encroachment. Tehsildar Sandeep Singh, however, denied all allegations, stating that he was simply following orders to inquire into a complaint. He claimed that the villagers suddenly started protesting and resorted to stone-pelting, damaging his vehicle. The villagers, led by former block pramukh Geetam Singh Rajput, alleged that the land matter is sub judice and no order has been passed to allow for measurement. They claimed that officials behaved rudely and tried to occupy the land forcibly, and that women from their family were assaulted during the clash. The situation escalated, resulting in clashes and stone-pelting. The tehsildar's official vehicle was damaged, and a case has been registered against 12 named and 20 unidentified persons for stone pelting, obstruction of government work, and damage to public property. However, the villagers alleged that instead of taking action against the alleged attackers, police forcibly detained women from the affected family and implicated them in the case. Further investigation is underway, and the videos of the clash are being examined by the police.
