Actor-politician Vijay has resumed his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign in Kancheepuram district, where he launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. In his first public outreach since the Karur stampede, which claimed 41 lives in September, Vijay drew on the legacies of DMK founder C N Annadurai and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran to emphasize his commitment to people's welfare. Vijay criticized the DMK for deviating from Annadurai's principles and instead adopting a "looting" mentality. He highlighted the party's failures in maintaining law and order, increasing crimes against women, and neglecting the concerns of farmers. The actor-politician also pledged to prioritize the welfare of Tamil Nadu's people, including providing permanent housing, education, and healthcare. The TVK leader emphasized that his party's ideology is rooted in Annadurai's vision of reaching out to the people, which is in stark contrast to the DMK's current practices. Vijay also took a dig at the DMK for allegedly manipulating voters and accused them of playing a "drama" to gain power. The TVK has already taken a stance on several key issues, including opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act, amendments to the Waqf Act, and the demand for a caste census. Vijay's campaign is expected to gain momentum in the run-up to the assembly elections, with the actor-politician vowing to take on the DMK and other opponents in a bid to bring about positive change in Tamil Nadu.
