A 40-year-old woman who died from injuries sustained while resisting a rape attempt in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district has sparked outrage among locals. Her family and villagers blocked the Hamirpur-Dharamshala national highway, demanding action against the 14-year-old accused, who is currently lodged in a juvenile home. The victim died on Friday night at Chandigarh's Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, five days after she was brutally attacked on November 3. According to police, the accused, a Class 9 student, had forcibly grabbed the woman while she was cutting grass in a field, and attempted to sexually assault her. When she resisted, he attacked her with a stick and a sickle, inflicting severe injuries. The police have registered a case and found evidence, including a broken pen and scale, at the crime scene. The accused has confessed to the crime, and police believe the act was committed with the intention of sexual assault. The villagers' blockade of the national highway, with the woman's body on the road, has brought attention to the case, with the police attempting to pacify the crowd and bring the accused to the scene.
