Kolkata: West Bengal's new BJP government has issued an order prohibiting government officers from sharing information with the media without permission.

The order, sent to IAS, IPS, WBCS, and WBPS officers, cites Central and state government service rules.

It prohibits officers from appearing in media programs or writing articles for newspapers unless sanctioned by the government.

The order also prohibits direct or indirect communication of any document or information with the press by government officers.

Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee alleged that the state intends to silence government employees and curtail their fundamental rights.
