Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of creating an atmosphere of fear in West Bengal, citing rising incidents of murder, rape, rioting, and political violence.

With less than 10 days left for the crucial two-phase assembly elections, Modi asked the party cadre to highlight crimes committed under the TMC regime and show videos of heinous crimes to the people.

Modi also alleged that infiltrators have destroyed the culture and Bengali language, and that the TMC regime is a "cut-money" government.

The TMC hit back, saying the BJP should first try and find workers in every booth before strengthening them.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised that the BJP, if voted to power in Bengal, would resolve the Gorkha issue in the Darjeeling hills in a constitutional manner without dividing the state.

Mamata Banerjee alleged that the term "logical discrepancy" under the SIR exercise is not officially recognised under the Election Commission framework and was selectively applied in West Bengal to benefit the BJP.

She also urged women to stand firm against security forces and keep brooms in their hands to safeguard their rights.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused both PM Modi and Bengal's ruling TMC of corruption, saying that if Modi is corrupt, then TMC is also not behind in the race.
