Kimi Antonelli, the 19-year-old Italian driver, made history by winning the Miami Grand Prix, becoming the youngest driver to lead an F1 title race and the first to win his first three races from consecutive pole positions.
Despite the mounting excitement and expectation in his homeland, Antonelli remained humble, saying "This is just the beginning" and vowing to "get back to work" for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix in two weeks.
His win was aided by a strategic undercut pit stop that allowed him to pass world champion Lando Norris midway through the race. Antonelli drove with determination to resist Norris in the closing stages.
With a 20-point lead over teammate George Russell, Antonelli will travel to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix, where he will face increased pressure to maintain his lead.
Team chief Toto Wolff praised Antonelli's precocious talent, saying "I hope all of Italy doesn't go mad now" and urging the team to keep their feet on the ground despite the country's support.
Norris, who finished behind Antonelli, expressed disappointment over the team's pit-stop strategy and praised Antonelli's performance, saying "He's doing a great job and hats off to him".
