Mumbai City FC's ownership has undergone a significant shift as City Football Group (CFG), a majority stakeholder since 2019, has divested its 65% shareholding in the club. This move comes in the wake of ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Indian Super League (ISL) and its commercial rights. CFG, a global football powerhouse that owns Manchester City, among other top clubs, has handed over control of Mumbai City FC to its founding partners, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and businessman Bimal Parekh. The move is aimed at ensuring CFG's focus remains on areas with the greatest long-term impact. Despite CFG's involvement, Mumbai City FC has achieved impressive success, winning four titles, including two League Winners Shields and two ISL Cups. The club expressed gratitude to CFG for their contributions and partnerships in India, which will continue in the future. The ISL has been plagued by uncertainty since July, when the organizers, FSDL, informed the All India Football Federation (AIFF) that they were putting the league on hold due to a lack of clarity over the renewal of the Master Rights Agreement. A subsequent proposal from 10 ISL clubs to take over the league's commercial rights failed to gain approval from the AIFF's General Body.
