The Chicago Cubs have made a significant move to bolster their bullpen, signing left-hander reliever Caleb Thielbar to a $4.5 million, one-year contract. Thielbar, who turns 39 next month, will receive a $4 million salary next year, with a $6 million mutual option for 2027 that comes with a $500,000 buyout. The deal also includes performance bonuses, with Thielbar eligible to earn an additional $750,000 based on the number of games he pitches. Thielbar's return to the Cubs adds another left-handed option to the team's bullpen, following the signing of Hoby Milner to a $3.75 million, one-year contract earlier this month. The Cubs are looking to build on their 2024 postseason appearance and Thielbar's experience will be crucial in their pursuit of returning to the playoffs. A veteran of 414 games, Thielbar has a 26-16 record and a 3.26 ERA throughout his career, all of which has been spent as a relief pitcher. Thielbar's journey began in the 2009 amateur draft, where he was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 18th round. He went on to spend eight seasons with the Minnesota Twins, where he posted a 2-4 record with a 5.32 ERA in 59 games last year. The Minnesota native will now look to make a significant impact in Chicago, joining relievers Phil Maton and other key players in the Cubs' bullpen.
