Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland will likely undergo another surgery on his left foot, just a year after missing 10 games due to an identical issue. Coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed the news on Friday. According to Schottenheimer, Bland's recent struggles stem from complications arising after his initial surgery. 'These things happen sometimes when you get your foot fixed,' Schottenheimer explained. 'It's unfortunate for DaRon, but he's a dedicated competitor.' Despite the setback, Schottenheimer is optimistic about Bland's recovery. 'He understands the journey he has to go through again, but he's gonna do a great job and come back better than before,' the coach said. Bland is expected to be ready for training camp. The 26-year-old cornerback has been a key player for the Cowboys, signing a four-year, $92 million extension this season. He has recorded 73 tackles and one interception returned for a touchdown in 12 games this season. Bland's impressive statistics include 15 interceptions, 237 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and 33 defended passes in his four seasons with the team. Bland was a first-team All-Pro in 2023, leading the NFL with nine interceptions and returning five for touchdowns. He was a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Fresno State and has appeared in 53 games for the Cowboys.
