New Delhi: Esha Singh, a 21-year-old pistol shooter from Hyderabad, is on a roll. She became the first Indian woman to win an individual medal at the World Championships, a bronze, and has been consistent in her performances this season. At the national selection trials, she secured the third spot in the 10m pistol ranking and the top spot in the 25m event. Singh's recent success shouldn't come as a surprise, given her talent was recognized since 2018 when she became the youngest national champion in the 10m air event at 13. At the Asian Championships starting in the capital on Wednesday, Esha will be expected to hit the bull's eye once again. "I am feeling quite confident and I hope to carry the momentum to this year's first international competition," Esha said. She will be competing in the twin pistol events, a feat achieved by only one other Indian shooter, Manu Bhaker. Straddling the two events comes with its own set of challenges, but Esha has been working on it for years. "It's not easy, but with experience, I know what to do and when to do it. The key is finding the right balance in training and focusing on your sight picture and triggering," she said. The depleted field at the Asian Championships may pose a challenge for Indian shooters, but Esha believes it's essential to start the cycle well and build up towards the end goal. "It's a simple game, and it's all in your mind," she said. The first competition day will feature four finals, including the senior men's and women's 10m pistol events. Besides Esha, the focus will be on Suruchi Singh, Manu Bhaker, and world champion Samrat Rana. "I think we have a very potent squad, and the competition within the team really pushes us to excel," Esha said.
