In a dominant display, Dylan Guenther collected his first career hat trick, while Nick Schmaltz scored twice, helping the Utah Mammoth secure a 7-2 victory over the New York Islanders in Elmont, N.Y. on Thursday. Mikhail Sergachev and Clayton Keller also contributed to the Mammoth's win, which tied their season-high for goals set earlier this season. The Mammoth's offense clicked into gear in the second period, with Guenther opening the scoring just 36 seconds in. However, the Islanders responded, with Calum Ritchie tying the score at 2:35. Guenther took control of the game with his second goal, scoring 9:40 into the period. This was followed by Nick Schmaltz's unassisted goal, which came after a turnover by Islanders defenseman Tony DeAngelo. In the third period, the Mammoth added to their lead, with Sergachev and Keller scoring just minutes apart. Schaefer scored the 10th goal of his rookie season at 11:48, before Guenther and Schmaltz added insurance scores in the final seven minutes. Goalie Karel Vejmelka made 20 saves for the Mammoth, while the Islanders' David Rittich was pulled in favor of Marcus Hogberg after giving up five goals on 14 shots. The Islanders suffered their most goals allowed since a 9-2 loss to the New York Rangers in April 2025. The team also lost leading scorer Bo Horvat to an injury in the third period, who had been named to Team Canada for the upcoming Milano Cortina Olympics earlier in the week.
