Indian Women's Hockey Team Gets Boost: Sjoerd Marijne Returns as Chief Coach for World Cup Qualifiers

In a significant move, Hockey India has appointed Sjoerd Marijne as the new chief coach of the Indian women's hockey team, a position he previously held from 2017 to 2021. Marijne returns to the role after leading the team to a remarkable fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. The Dutch coach will be assisted by Matias Vila, a former Argentine midfielder with over two decades of coaching experience, as the analytical coach. Matias Vila made his international debut in 1997 and competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2004 Athens Olympics. Marijne will also be joined by Dr. Wayne Lombard, who returns as the Scientific Advisor and Head of Athletic Performance. Rodet Yila and Ciara Yila will support Lombard in the role of Scientific Advisor. Marijne expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, "I return with fresh energy and a clear vision to support the team's growth and help the players achieve their full potential on the world stage.
